The Thistle is a disc stud ringed with a full border of gold beads a granulation edge encircling a central round diamond of. The texture is tactile and ancient; the overall effect is somewhere between botanical and ceremonial.

Granulation the technique of fusing tiny spheres of gold to a surface is one of the oldest forms of goldsmithing, tracing back through Etruscan and ancient Indian jewellery traditions. Here it forms the perimeter of a stud that would not look out of place in either context. The beaded edge gives weight and dimension to a piece that, in gold, barely registers on a scale.
